Green Homes Grant Local Delivery Scheme

Retrofit: Cheaper, Warmer, Greener

* PLEASE NOTE EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: Sefton is no longer administering the Sustainable Warmth Scheme. The latest round HUG2 (Home Upgrade Grant) is being delivered through the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and is not available for properties that have Gas Central Heating systems in place.

The scheme will make homes cheaper to heat, more energy efficient and better for the planet. They will keep the house warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

The funding has come from The Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) as part of the Government’s post COVID-19 response and Climate Change targets.

If eligible, an assessment on your home will determine the measures that are suitable and the grant could pay for items like:

  • Loft insulation;
  • Under-floor insulation;
  • Cavity wall insulation;
  • Solar power;
  • New doors;
  • External Wall Insulation
  • Air Source Heat Pumps
  • Energy efficient light bulbs.

Am I eligible?

You could be eligible for the HUG2 scheme if:

  • Your household income is below £31,000 gross per annum or you live in a qualifying postcode.
  • You live in a difficult to heat house that meets the eligibility criteria
  • You don’t have a Gas Central Heating System

Is my home eligible?

The grant is available to privately owned properties with an Energy Performance Certificate rating of D, E, F or G.

If your home is owned by a private or social landlord, they will need to contribute at least a third of the total costs of works, with the maximum grant for landlords being £5,000.

What are the benefits?

The scheme is intended to help make your home warmer. The benefits may include:

  • Reducing the amount of energy needed to heat your home;
  • Potentially reducing your energy bills;
  • Helping to tackle the climate emergency.

How do I apply?

If you live in Sefton and would like to see if you’re eligible for a HUG2 please apply via this form: https://forms.sefton.gov.uk/greenhomesform/ or https://www.liverpoolcityregion-ca.gov.uk/what-we-do/housing/home-upgrade-grant-two/

What will happen once I apply?

If eligible, a retrofit survey will be arranged for your property to establish its current energy rating and the most appropriate improvements for your property.

A Retrofit Co-ordinator will then recommend improvements based on the grant available.

Some more visits will be arranged to help plan the work and then appoint a contractor and oversee the work for you to make sure that everything meets Government standards.
