Organised Walks

There are a host of routes in Sefton, you can find on our Walking Routes page, but you may prefer to enjoy the health benefits of walking while meeting new people or enjoying time with your friends by taking part in our range of organised walks (see below).

The Active Walks programme provides local organized walks throughout Sefton, which are volunteer-led and follow a variety of routes including woodland trails, coastal paths, canal towpaths and local parks.

The pace of the walk is set by the group and can cover distances of between 1.5 - 6 miles depending on the location.

There is no need to book and they are completely free of charge. You can contact the team on 0151 934 2824 or email our Active Walks team

Nordic Walking

This is a fitness walk which uses specially designed poles to enhance the natural walking experience, it burns up to 40% more calories and uses 90% of the body’s muscles. The poles are used to get the upper body moving and to help propel the walker, meaning that the walker works harder than usual whilst walking, yet the support provided by the poles make it feel easier.

Nordic Walking Technique Training

Technique training is a Free 4 week course, one hour a week, teaching you the technique of Nordic Walking. Once you have completed the training, you will be given a Nordic Walking UK certificate and card, meaning you can join any Nordic Walking group in the UK. This course must be completed before joining a Nordic Walking group.

Nordic Walk Leader Training

After completing the Nordic Walk Technique Training, Sefton are offering a free one day course in Nordic Walk Leader Training.

If you would like to sign up to any of the Nordic Walking that is on offer with Sefton Council, please contact the Active Walks team on 0151 934 2824 or by email or if you would like more information on Nordic Walking please visit the Nordic Walking UK website.

Walking for Health is hosted by The Ramblers and Macmillan Cancer Support. The training courses are held at a venue in Sefton and first aid training will also be available at a later date. We have over 45 volunteers regularly leading walks across Sefton and we are always looking for more to join our team. All the walks are 1.5-6 miles distance and can last from 30 minutes to 2 hours.

The routes are always risk assessed and Sefton Council will market and promote the walk. If you are interested and wish to discuss the possibility of becoming a walk leader please contact Sefton Council.

Through the working day people spend less time on their feet and more time with their bum on a seat, Active Workforce are looking to change this by offering a lunchtime walk! Instead of spending most of your day and your dinner time cooped up at your desk, why not come for a half hour stroll to get out and have a gab with some colleagues!
