As we celebrate our Borough‘s half-century with Sefton at 50, we will be out and about across the Borough meeting the people that make Sefton great.

When Janet retuned to live in Waterloo in 2000, after 12 years spent in Ireland, she wanted to put something back.

Wilderness on her doorstep  

She discovered she had a nature wilderness on her doorstep which, with the help of the Council has since become the Waterloo Community Forest Garden.

It’s still a wild place – a little oasis of nature in an urban area - which is just how Janet and the Friends of Victoria Park like it.  But it also, thanks to the hard work of the volunteers and woodchip from the Council, contains a vegetable garden.

Connection with nature

Janet believes this type of connection with nature helps people with their mental health and also binds communities together.

She also says that “giving something back is the most rewarding thing to do. Ever.”
