Be Active school holiday activities

Could you volunteer?

Home Visit Volunteers

You could help us by selecting books for readers, or delivering them. You would help older or less mobile people maintain the stimulation and pleasures of reading in their own homes.

Story and Rhymetime

These sessions usually last about 30 minutes, and volunteers help with singing and reading to pre-school children and their families. Your involvement can vary from simply helping out, to running the sessions. You need to be friendly and enjoy being with young children.

Basic IT Sessions

Sefton libraries offer basic IT sessions for complete beginners. You would be working with one or two people who have never used a computer before, and would get them started on IT using the GO-On website. You need to be patient and have a working knowledge of IT.

Sefton’s Lost Voices project

Sefton Libraries have a project called Lost Voices - recording the memories of people who have a compelling story to share or who may be in the early stages of memory loss. The recording will be used by the person and the family as an ‘aide-memoir’, as the person’s memory begins to fade and as a keepsake once the person is lost to the family. A second set of recordings will be kept in Sefton’s archive; this could be used by school children/students studying social history.

We are looking for volunteers for two roles, as part of the project.

We are looking for volunteers to visit people in their homes or at social events (Memory Cafés etc) in Sefton; they will sit and chat about the persons life, whilst recording the conversation. Training will be given to the volunteers, on how to use the equipment and what questions to ask during the conversation. Handouts will also be provided.

We are also looking for volunteers to download and edit the oral histories, once they have been recorded. Training will be given to the volunteers, on how to use the equipment. Handouts will also be provided.
